Speaking from our own experience we on the Catterick Committee have gained so much from working to help SSAFA Forces Help in Catterick Garrison.

Not only do we get to fill our spare time with fun and often very absorbing projects, but we also get to make new friends, learn new skills

and meet new people every day.

On the practical side working with the Committee you will have a chance to use skills that don’t necessarily always fit into standard working life.

We can also give you the opportunity to learn new skills.  Want to try your hand at painting or designing?  We are always keen to involve people in our awareness and publicity campaigns – it might be your design on our next event poster!  Or you might be a budding poet or journalist – we’d love for volunteers to give us ideas for this website, and of course one thing we would like to do is create an online newsletter.  Could you be our next editor or features writer?

Another benefit of joining in with us is that you will get to meet a wide range of people, both in personal and business situations.  It’s a great way to increase your social and business network, and may lead on to other opportunities.

If you are currently not working, due to motherhood, or following your move to Catterick, working alongside us can help build your confidence on the way towards getting a paid job.  Volunteering is a great way to practice your skills before starting to apply for jobs, and, with the skills range we have in our people we can help guide and develop your abilities taking you to the next level.  At the very least with the local knowledge that we have as a group we might be able to help point you in the right direction.

Finally, of course, there is one very simple thing that you will get out of volunteering – the satisfaction of knowing that you have done something practical to help yourself and your community

– and that’s priceless!
