We have a small team of Community Volunteers led by a Community Volunteer and Awareness Supervisor.  Community Volunteers provide low-key support to families and individuals in the following ways:

  • Visiting isolated and lonely families when the spouse is away on duty;
  • Befriending those who need someone to listen, and putting them in touch with an appropriate agency when necessary;
  • Supporting the bereaved;
  • Practical tasks such as transport to local hospitals and other agencies as necessary;
  • Helping estranged families;
  • Advice and welcome to newly weds, who may be unfamiliar with Service life; and
  • Assistance, advice and support to those leaving the armed forces that may be anxious about resettlement into civilian life.

Families and individuals can also obtain:

  • Financial grants and temporary loans to alleviate financial distress.
  • Practical aid grants to allow the purchase of items needed to support for example: medical treatments, child welfare needs, and ensure safe and healthy living conditions.
  • Financial assistance with the costs of counselling services in cases of marital breakdown or crisis.
  • Assistance with the costs of counselling services for emotional and psychiatric disorders or distress.
